Our DC trip!

We went to DC June 20-27. I took the two older boys and went along with our friends the Shadley's. We had a great time. There are so many great sites to see. We stayed in Alexandria, Va. the home town of Robert E. Lee. It was a quaint little town with brick sidewalks and adorable homes. We of course saw all the monuments and also went to the Smithsonian. My favorite was Mt. Vernon, which is George Washington's estate. It is so beautiful. The view is breath taking. I loved that I had Peyton along because he is always so inquisitive and loves to ask any question. Everyone is thinking it and yet he will just ask it. For instance we were taking a tour of the White House and there are secret service men all over and he just starts in with, "so do you see the President all the time? Or do people try and jump the fence? have you ever killed anyone?" Both boys were great! We did a great deal of walking. I wish I would have worn one of those pedometers to see how many steps we took. The metro system was definitely a plus too! I forgot to mention that we also got to see some family and friends in Maryland too. This trip was a definite highlight to our studying American history this year. It really brought it to life!
