Treasured Napkins
So school has begun and with that comes the ever dreaded lunch making. What to make and not keep it boring is a constant battle.? I want to make sure they are not just getting junk. Any ideas?? Send them my way.
Within the process of making lunches though I have found that memories have been flooding back to me of my High School days, especially since I just sent my baby to HS this year!! :( My sweet daddy use to make my lunches on his days off. The thing that made these lunches so great though wasn't the food ( not that it was bad either :) love you dad) but the wonderful napkins tucked inside. I looked forward to opening my lunch to see what my dad had written. I still have these treasured napkins. They are a reminder to me of how much my parents loved me even when I was unlovable. Here is an example of what some of them would say:
" Holly- Hope you are feeling better and don't get any wetter, try to stay dry cause if you don't I might cry. Luv, Pop"
" Holly- This is the day the Lord has made,Let us rejoice and be glad in it. ( especially for this lunch) And a surprise in every package. Luv Pops"
" Holly- The food in this lunch is magical indeed, the more you eat, the more you need. After each tasty bite, you want even more. But the only way to get it, is to go to the store. So stay right where you're at, can't you see all the food is gone when I count one, two- three!"
HA HA. They are many more and of course I am carrying on this tradition. Although the boys will check and say, "mom no notes!!" But I know they secretly love it just like I use to. Just because notes are the best! Thanks Pops for my treasured napkins. Reading them today still warms my heart! Love you! :)

That is so sweet! What great memories. I think I will do that when I send my two to school next week. :) Thanks for the idea. P.S. I am looking for good lunch ideas too. I know I got sick of sandwiches really quick! Maybe try some hard boiled eggs? I have also heard of wrapping beans and cheese into a tortilla, left overs from dinner?
Oh, adorable!!! When Joel goes to work somewhere I love to send him a note in his lunch as well. I LOVE your post Holly!!! Good one!!!
My dad wrote on my napkins too! Great memory.
sorry - i typed incorrectly the last time! i put a note on my kids napkins (bc of this post) and they didn't say anything! maybe they didn't use them!
I used to do this same exact thing when I would make my dad's lunch for work. I loved doing it!
